New changes to the Immigration rules for students and their dependants.
On 23rd May Home Secretary Suella Braverman announced new changes to the immigration rules focusing on international students and their dependants. The main focus of the changes is to bring net immigration down.
Right of international students to bring dependants
The changes mainly focus on removing rights of international students to bring their dependants to the UK unless they are on a research programme. Previously international students were allowed to bring their dependants if they were studying a postgraduate degree level course of above.
Restriction on switching to work related routes
Currently students are allowed to switch to skilled worker visa and some other work route via categories even if they have not finished their studies. This will stop under the new changes and students will have to finish their studies before they can switch to any work route.
Other minor changes may include changing maintenance requirements for international students and their dependants.
