Return of post study work visa

Students

As per a decision made by then- Home Secretary Theresa May in 2012, international students were expected to leave the UK within 4 months of graduating. This limited prospect of many international graduates finding a job.

New proposals recently announced by the Home Office bring about good news for international students as it reverses the 2012 decision. International students will be able to stay in the UK for two years after graduation once the new PSW Rules come into force. Although a specific timeframe as to when the new Rules come into force is yet to be announced, this brings about hope for international students wishing to come to the UK and provides a real opportunity of finding jobs.

Under the new proposal, there is no restriction on the kind of jobs international students may apply for. However, they are still expected to adhere to requirements relating to their status in the UK as students.

This is a step in the right direction both for the UK economy and many talented international students who wish to study and work in the UK.
